Covid Not The First Virus To Destroy A Democratic Nation
"There is little doubt that the Great Plague changed the course of the war, planting the seeds that would destroy Athenian democracy.”
Within the context of the great pandemic plague of the 21st century there exists a dichotomy among peoples.
On the one hand, we have those who accept what government, media and health organizations have to tell us about Covid-19. On the other hand we have the skeptics– commonly known as anti-Vaxxers– those who do not trust our ruling institutions.
For these people, ulterior motives linger behind the Covid curtain. They point to motivations such as Big Pharma profits, as well as the pandemic as an excuse to control society. Some consider the motive to be political– the plague functioning as a form of subterfuge in a plot to transition western democracies to authoritarian states.
In this regard, an historical event known as the Great Plague of Athens sheds light on the theory. In the year 430 B.C., the Peloponnesian War fractured social and political life in ancient Athens.
The Great Plague, considered to be either typhus or typhoid, contributed to the downfall of Athens is it fell to the armies of Sparta.
The plague killed the great Athenian general and statesman Pericles, his wife, and their sons, Paralus and Xanthippus. “It was a disaster of epic proportions that altered not only the Peloponnesian War, but the whole of Greek, and consequently world history.“
“There is little doubt that the Great Plague changed the course of the war (being at least in part responsible for Athens’s defeat), planting the seeds that would weaken and then destroy Athenian democracy.”
What we can glean from this piece of ancient history appears straight-forward. A viral plague, in this case typhoid, contributed to the end of democratic governance in ancient Athens. The impact of the event was great enough to reverberate throughout the known world.
Sound familiar? Does history, in fact, repeat itself? Is this the situation Canada finds itself in at present? The pandemic makes for a volatile world. There aren’t many things citizens can count on these days. What interested parties can count on, however, is that mainstream media will never allude to anything herein presented.
Interesting how Canada’s monolithic media take a uniform approach to Covid. Nothing exists beyond the immediate health of the day. At present, we have a situation where Covid mandates are being enforced nation-wide in Austria, Germany and other nations. Canada is likely to follow.
Yet, throughout the entire spectacle, not one article has appeared on the pandemic’s social ramifications. How is this going to affect society in the long-term? Will we ever “return to normal?” What are the implications for future generations?
Could the impact of the pandemic be such that the foundation of western democracies become altered from their original condition? Now take CBC, CTV, Globe & Mail and National Post, mix them up in a blender, and inform Canadians the degree to which media has speculated on the sociological implications of Covid.
The answer is nothing at all. Why not? There is a word which best encapsulates the circumstances: collusion.
Obviously, government and media have come to an agreement not to explore these avenues. For what purpose? Could it be that transformative change will result from the pandemic– but government do not want our citizenship to properly understand the end game?
The foremost account of the Great Plague, as for all of the Peloponnesian War, can be found in Thucydides’s History of the Peloponnesian War. Thucydides has been called the “father of political realism,” and his assessment of the Plague and its consequences bears out the honour.
“As few others have before or since, Thucydides understood the ways in which fear and self-interest, when they are submitted to, guide individual motives, and consequently the fate of nations.”
Covid promotes fear. Self-interest lies at the heart of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s control over Canadian society. The outcome affects the fate of our nation.
Our fate being one that government nor media ever speak of. Is the destiny of Canada to be found in the allegorical message provided by the Great Plague of Athens in 430 B.C.?
If it is, Canadians may one day hear of it– after it is far too late for the process to be reversed in any capacity.
