Every country’s development is unique. New France between the years after England ended up with increasing its North American holdings after England defeated France in the Seven Years War, found itself at the mercy of several converging historical forces.
Shortly after the end of the Seven Years War the English colonists wrested possession of those colonies from the English. The United States and the English in 1800, signed the Jay Treaty agreeing to a border more or less where it still is today. This treaty made the United States sovereign in lands formerly called New France. Trade goods bypassed the St Lawrence River.
After the War of 1812 the United States embarked on a range of projects they expected would tie their country together. The first was the Erie Canal the second was the railroad. Each of them weakened New France.
What to do? The hardest thing was to accept the new order. New France was the most successful of the New World colonies. America was industrializing. And the main driver of industrialization was the railroad, but Lower Canada did not want a railroad controlled by Americans to operate in Canada.
The only way to compete it was decided was to build a railroad. The only way to secure the necessary borrowing was to offer sufficient security. Confederation created a brand new country. After studying the Articles of the American Constitution it was decided rather than a confederation like the U.S. instead to form a Federation. They are vastly different animals.
A Federation was what Lower Canada wanted and that is what they got. Seats in Parliament were not allocated the way seats were allocated in the House of Representatives. They instead favoured Quebec. A Federation is a much different animal than a Confederation. Odd eh, Canadas Federation was called a Confederation Americas Confederation was called a Federation; a Republic.
After “Confederation” Canada had the collateral necessary to secure the huge loans necessary to build the railroad.
Gradually though Quebec lost its seat majority as Canadas population grew. So Pierre E Trudeau engineered a — what by any name you choose — was a Constitutional Amendment. A federation suited Quebec in 1867 but by the end of WW II it no longer did.
So the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was instigated to enable Quebecers to, so to say, invade Canadas Parliamentary precincts. The Courts were empowered to bypass Parliament and the terms of Canada’s founding document which Lower Canada preferred in 1867 and reinstate French power in Canada. The Charter empowered the Supreme Court to make bilingualism in Canada’s parliamentary precinct the Law.
Of course the PMOs office could then use the law to transfer billions to Quebec because it was only fair — after all, the Anglos it was said had taken advantage of Quebecers since 1867.
The entire of railroad infrastructure though was built in Quebec. Steel mills, mines, dams, hydroelectric dams, locomotive factories, foundries, rails, etc. were built in Quebec and Montreal.
Anglo Canadians were quiescent and barely defended their own interests.

I really not sure that the Canadian Army will support Trudeau if push comes to shove. It was a member of the Canadian Army that attempted to kill or arrest him at his home. When Trudeau illegally enacted the Emergency Act he should of called the Army but he didn't , he had his Private SS Troopers ( RCMP ) do the dirty work for him. This to me speaks volumes about who he trusts and relies on , and it's not the Canadian Army. I just hope that there's even an election in 2025.
